McDonald's Just Revealed A New McFlurry Flavor For Summer

Nothing says summer quite like ice cream — a sentiment with which McDonald's apparently agrees. The fast food giant has recently rolled out its first new McFlurry flavor of 2022, and the timing couldn't be better for consumers who prefer warm seasonal weather to contrast with their chilled, ice cream-based treats. In fact, according to a press release from the chain, McDonald's timed the release of its latest McFlurry flavor to coincide with the (unofficial, at least) start of the summer season just before Memorial Day. The new Chocolatey Pretzel McFlurry will be available at participating locations among McDonalds' 13,500 U.S. eateries beginning on May 25.

As The Sun notes, the McFlurry has been a staple of the McDonald's dessert menu dating back to the late 1990s. Although the Oreo and M&M's flavors are standard McFlurry offerings, other flavors are made available on a limited-time basis. McDonalds' press release confirms this will be the case with the new Chocolatey Pretzel McFlurry, which won't be around forever.

What are the ingredients in the new McFlurry?

As is the case with all of the McDonald's McFlurry frozen treats, the base of the Chocolatey Pretzel version is the fast food chain's vanilla soft serve ice cream, per the menu. Additional ingredients include chocolate-covered pretzel bits and caramel swirls, achieving what McDonald's says is "the perfect combination of salty and sweet." The chain suggests leaning into the item's sweet side by ordering a chocolate chip cookie on the side, or going the salty route by buying an order of fries for dipping. (McDonald's may be onto something there, as it turns out there's a scientific reason why fries taste better with a milkshake.)

According to Eat This, Not That, the Chocolatey Pretzel McFlurry may not be completely new to all McDonald's customers. It was also briefly served in select Southern California locations in August of 2021. This year, the treat can be ordered in both regular and snack sizes for $3.29 and $2.59, respectively.
